The Home Energy Retrofit Program
To help homeowners save energy, save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Ontario Government has created the Home Energy Retrofit Program. The program awards homeowners with rebates of up to $5,000 for home energy improvements. This matches up to $5,000 available from the federal government — for a total of up to $10,000. If you live in Ontario and own a single family home you are eligible for the Home Energy Retrofit Program. A single family home is defined as a detached or semi-detached home or a low-rise, multi-unit residential building that is three stories or less and less than 600 square meters. To qualify for rebates, you need to first complete a Home Energy Audit with a certified energy advisor. After this audit, you have 18 months to make some or all of the upgrades your energy advisor recommends. After completing the work, you need a post-retrofit audit. You will receive rebates for the amounts allowed for each eligible upgrade you make, up to $10,000, even if you do the work yourself.
